How To Pray For Healing – Part 1

Have you ever wanted to pray for healing for someone, or even for yourself, but have not been sure of where to start?

Before I go on, if you haven’t already, I encourage to go back to read my posts listed below. These will really help you to have the foundation that it is ALWAYS God’s will to heal and that you can pray this for yourself and others and see it happen.

God wants relationship with mankind. That has always been and always will be His very first priority. He partners with you and me to bring the Kingdom down into the earth – and that includes healing.

Do you wonder if you could actually pray and see someone healed with your own eyes?

The Bible says that you too can move in God’s power just like Jesus did.

And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Mark 16:17-18 (ESV)

One of my most favourite verses is Matthew 10:8.

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.”

I have taken these 2 verses as part of the a mandate for my life.

I am not going to get into here why healing sometimes doesn’t come. There are a few reasons eg. unforgiveness, unbelief, intentional sin, or plainly that they just don’t want to be healed. There is also God’s “mystery box” – answers we don’t yet have. Though here, I want to focus on what we CAN do, right now.

Relationship, Faith, Presence, and Practise

Relationship

There is no way around it, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus to bring true healing and wholeness otherwise you will be pounded by the demonic realm (See Acts 19:11-20).

Spend time in worship and praise for who God is and what He has done for you. Take time to listen to what He has to say and ask Him for what you want and need. This is relationship.

Faith

“But I don’t have the gift of healing.” I hear you think. Um, if you have Holy Spirit living inside of you then guess what, you are able to lay hands on the sick and then watch them recover. No excuses. Jesus said it so there’s no argument.

Build up your faith.

Find verses in the Bible that line up with healing. (If you haven’t yet signed up, go ahead and do that and you will received a free download of Bible verses to speak out over your life regarding healing.)

Listen to teachings and testimonies about healing on YouTube. Some suggestions to search for are: Randy Clark, Bill Johnson, Todd White, Katie Souza, and John Mellor. Buy their books on healing and raise up your faith for it.

Terri Savelle Foy says that “Someone is waiting on the other side of your obedience.” I love that. God wants to partner with you to bring about someone else’s miracle. How exciting that there is someone waiting to be healed by your hands. What an honour!

Presence

Peter’s shadow fell on people and they were healed. Peter was so filled with the Presence of God that it surrounded him. It’s the Presence of God that heals and makes whole.

I love what Bill Johnson says, “Today’s church encamps around a sermon. The Israelites encamped around the Presence.” Which brings healing, wholeness, restoration and reconciliation?

Just spending time with God draws His presence to you. Worship Him for how wonderful, amazing and beautiful He is. Praise and thanksgiving brings you into His courts and His presence can’t help but encompass you.

Practise

It just takes practise. I have been praying for people for years and I’ve seen a few healings – a man came out of a mysterious coma (from a brain infection) and is still going strong today, hips were healed, some headaches gone – but these were over a period of many, many years.

However, in the last year, I have seen many more healings – a lump in a lady’s arm shrank right in front of us, a lady’s sinus issues got instantly healed, a damaged ankle was healed, backs been healed, allergies relieved, and quite a few more. It’s very exciting.

Did I do anything special? No.

I just did what I have mentioned above and laid hands on and prayed. (More on that next week)

You have dominion over the enemy and every disease

Genesis 1:28 says that you have dominion over over “every living thing that moves on the earth.” EVERYTHING that God created, except other people. This includes demons and their activity, the weather, sickness and disease, germs, bacteria, pain, inflammation, etc.

When we have bought something and it breaks, we go back to the shop or we contact the manufacturer. It’s the same with healing. We need to go back to the original manufacturer of the body – God. He created the body in the first place so He can fix whatever is wrong. He can even give those who need them brand new body parts!

Think about it. Jesus’ body was unrecognisable (Isaiah 52:14) but when He appeared to His disciples and others after His resurrection, the only scars He had were those in His hands and feet. Talk about a complete body overhaul!

This is the major key to healing. Joaquin Evans who in charge of the Healing Rooms at Bethel Church. He and his team would pray for people for 5 hours in faith and not see results. He went to God with the same question I am asking you. “God, obviously you’re not the problem. Is there something we need to change?” God’s response was, “You need to take your eyes off the problem and put them back on the One who is the Solution.”

Something to think about.

You are not meant to die until your job has been accomplished. If you are sick and you still have promises from God, it definitely is not your time. If sickness determined your time of death, Jesus would never have raised Lazrarus from the dead, or commanded His disciples, and us, to raise the dead. God determines your death as the time when your purpose is complete. Anything less than that is perfectly unacceptable.

“Do not be excessively wicked and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time?”

ECCLESIASTES 7:17 (NASB)

“And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Matthew 21:22 (NASB)

“And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”  Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

Mark 1:40-42 (NASB)

Jesus is willing to heal, are you? He needs your faith and your action to do it.
