Key #1 Know Who You Are

We begin a journey on how to defeat the devil no matter what he throws at you.

Does this sound like fun?

It totally is but I must warn you – you will be tested on it if you choose to step out into this journey. I can guarantee you of that.

However, don’t let this deter you. You already have the victory if you are follower of Jesus Christ. Don’t give up.

Romans 8:37b (NLT) says, “overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”

This is right before Paul tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God in the verses that follow. How amazing is that?!

Therefore, here is the very first key:

Know WHO you are and WHOSE you are.

Actually, the ‘who you are’ comes out of the ‘whose you are’.

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”    Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

You belong to God, the Creator of all things, the giver of life – your life. You are His child. He is your Heavenly Father and He loves you desperately.

This is WHOSE you are.

WHO AM I?

I think this is one of the biggest questions that we each ask ourselves. What do you think?

I AM a new creation in Christ    (2 Corinthians 5:17)
I AM a saint    (1 Corinthians 1:2)
I AM a royal priesthood    (1 Peter 2:9)
I AM the righteousness of God in Christ    (2 Corinthians 5:21)
I AM a child of God    (John 1:12)
I AM forgiven    (1 John 1:9)
I AM the light of the world    (Matthew 5:14)
I AM a co-heir with Christ    (Romans 8:17)
I AM desperately loved by God ….. just as I am right now    (Romans 8:38-39)
I AM the Bride of Christ and we are already married      (Ephesians 5:21-33, Revelation 19:7)
I AM filled with the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead    (Romans 8:11)
I AM chosen and I belong to God   (1 Peter 2:9)

This IS who you are ….. right now!

Let me reiterate this to you. You are NOT a sinner. The Bible does not support this claim and neither should you. You might sin but you are not a sinner. You were before you came to know Christ but not after. You are either a sinner or righteous but you can’t be both. Shake that off right now and say out loud the decrees above. This is who you really are.

God is your Heavenly Father, and you are a co-heir with the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 8:17). You are already His Bride, married to Jesus (Rev 19:7), and you have access to everything in Heaven that Jesus has (Eph 2:6). The exact same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you (Rom 8:11). Jesus has given you ALL, not some, but all authority over the devil and his plans (Luke 10:19).

This makes you fully victorious in all aspects of your life. I don’t think there is ever a more exciting time to live than right now.

Now I bet you are thinking, “Wow! I wonder why there is so much going wrong in the world, even in my world.” Well, the problem is never on God’s side. We live in a world where the devil has some reign (but not as much as he thinks he has) and we, as Believers, are not yielding all of the weapons that have been given to us or the resources from Heaven that we have access to.

You ARE the light of the world because Christ lives in you. Light always pushes back darkness so therefore, the more brightly you shine, the less dark the world becomes. Does this make sense?

I pray that this encourages you to realise that you have full authority over the devil, you no longer are a sinner, you are seated with Jesus in Heavenly places right now and Holy Spirit is more than willing and able to give you direction and all the things needed to put the enemy back where he belongs – under your feet. God gave us authority to trample on serpents (Psalm 91:13) because we are in Christ.

It is about time the enemy is reminded of who he actually is …….  A DEFEATED FOE! (Luke 10:19)
