We have been looking at some different ways to do spiritual warfare.
Here are the keys that we have looked at so far.
Key #1 – Know Who You Are
Key #2 – All You Need Is …
Love is ALWAYS God’s First Priority
Our next key in spiritual warfare is ….. SILENCE.
This may seem like an odd one but it is very true.
I was quite good at spelling at school because my mum would drill me on my spelling words almost every day. At the time it was awful but now I am truly grateful. In high school it came time for a spelling competition in my class. The only thing was …. I had lost my voice, completely. No sound whatsoever. My English teacher thought this was hilarious and sang, “Silence is Golden”, a song by The Tremeloes. I didn’t really understand the importance of these words until I had children (just kidding …. sort of) and in dealing with the devil.
In Luke 1:20, Zechariah (the father of John the Baptist) was silenced by the angel Gabriel. You see, Zechariah doubted the words of Gabriel about the coming pregnancy of his wife as they were both far in years. Why was Zechariah silenced? If Zechariah had have spoken out words of doubt, he could have thwarted the plans of God.
Words today create your tomorrows.
If Zechariah spoke negatively, it would have massacred the faith that was being built by Gabriel’s words. John the Baptist may never have been born and history as we know it would not be. It was better for him to be quiet.
Words create worlds. Are you creating the one that you want? If not, speak something else or keep quiet.
What is coming out of your mouth?
Words can be beautiful. Words can bring the imagination into reality. Words can build something incredible. Words can heal and bring comfort. Words can bring such amazing joy. Words can be inspiring.
But ….
Words are also swords. Words are daggers. Words wound. Words can build or completely destroy. Negative, critical and slanderous words invite the enemy to work in your life and the lives of the ones you talk about.
There are no neutral words. Did you know that? Every word you speak activates the angelic realm that surrounds you or, they activate the demonic realm. Sometimes it is just better to not say anything at all, just keep silent.
This is why the Bible tells us in Colossians 4:6 (ESV), “ Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
Words are extremely powerful – for both good and bad.
What are you meditating on? Meditate means to roll a thought around in your mind. Meditation is not some mystical way of thinking. If you can worry, you can meditate.
Satan can put a thought in your mind but only you have the power to build it or destroy it. Take captive every thought to obey Christ – why? Because what you think about and roll over in your mind eventually comes out of your mouth. Remember, what comes out of your mouth creates or destroys. What comes out of your mouth either activates the angelic realm (the Kingdom of God) or the demonic realm (the kingdom of darkness).
Good News!
However, there is good news. God has given us parameters on what we can think on and talk about. He’s clever like that.
“ Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [centre your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” Philippians 4:8 (AMP)
What an amazing list of things that we get to think and talk about! These words will create a fantastic tomorrow for you and will keep the enemy in his rightful place – under your feet. He can’t stand it when you think about good things for ALL good things were given to you by God Himself! (James 1:17).
Words heal and cause God to move. He loves it when we sing Him praise and speak words of life and faith. The angelic go to work at the sound of us speaking God’s Word (Psalm 103:20). This is why it is imperative to speak the Word of God, the Bible, to defeat the enemy. Jesus did it in Matthew 4, so can we.
I once heard someone say, “If you don’t have anything kind to say, BE QUIET and think about something else that is positive and encouraging.” I think these are very wise words.
Your words are weapons of warfare (2 Corinthians 10:4). Be careful how you wield your sword. If you find that only destructive and hurtful words want to come spewing out of your mouth, zip it and force your mind to think of something encouraging or kind.
Sometimes silence is the only answer.
The next time someone wants to draw you into a gossip or slander session, stay silent and attempt to move away. The next time someone wants to criticise you, stay silent, listen to their concerns and let your response be full of grace. Staying silent helps to gather your thoughts to give an appropriate and life giving answer, instead of reacting in anger which only causes more harm. It’s also easier to hear his voice when He isn’t trying to speak over the top of you. It’s not easy but I am convinced that with practise and more listening to Holy Spirit’s promptings, we will all get much better at it.
I pray that you will experience the voice of Holy Spirit when a trying time comes. May you know Him is your helper today. He is the best friend you could and will ever have. He will help you to know when to speak and when to stay silent.
Bless you mightily,
