Key #8 The Truth That WILL Set You Free!

You most likely have heard this saying thrown around in movies, books, everyday conversation, anywhere really.

“You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”   John 8:32

But have you ever read this Bible verse in context to the chapters and verses that surround it?

Believe it or not but this is another weapon of warfare. Truth always pushes back the enemy of your soul.

Here is a caption of it from John 8:31-36:

“So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples. And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone. What do You mean by saying, ‘You will be set free’?” Jesus answered, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, everyone who practices sin habitually is a slave of sin. Now the slave does not remain in a household forever; the son [of the master] does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, then you are unquestionably free.“

The question is, what are you being set free from? Have you ever thought about that?

“He (Satan) was a murderer from the beginning, NOT HOLDING TO THE TRUTH, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, FOR HE IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF LIES.”   John 8:44 (NIV)

Jesus sets you free from Satan’s lies.

Jesus also sets you free from:

• being a slave to sin
• the requirements of a false religion
• the entanglement of the lies from the demons
• the penalty of sin – which is eternal separation from God
• the power of sickness
• the power of poverty and lack
• the lies of insecurity and the orphan spirit
• basically anything that doesn’t give you and your situations life

Jesus came to give you life and life abundant (John 10:10). ANYTHING LESS THAN THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!

This is the truth: Jesus IS the Truth that will set you free!

The personhood of Christ is the Truth.

John 14:6 (ESV) says, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus Christ IS the Truth that will set you free. Nothing else will.

Get to know Jesus. He is so beautiful and amazing. The more you know Him, the more His truth will seep into your soul and the more freedom you will walk in. Knowing Jesus is knowing the ultimate truth about who He truly is, who you truly are and who you were created to be.

How do you do this.

Read the New Testament. I would suggest Luke and John as they give two very different, personal perspectives of Jesus and His ministry. I especially love John’s Gospel because he is all about the love of God for mankind. Next, sit and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you in a personal way. Don’t rush off, just wait for Him to speak. He will put a thought or a picture into your mind, give you a Bible verse to look up or you will just feel Him there with you. He truly is so very beautiful.

If you have accepted Jesus as Lord of your life, you live for Him, and want intimate relationship with Him, then you are FREE! You may not feel like you, you may just need to learn how to walk in that freedom.

The demons will look for opportunities to lie to you and try and convince you that you are not free and still bound. It is not true unless you agree with their lies. If have done so, ask the Lord to forgive you and ask Him to show you what true freedom looks like.

I have mentioned this before but I want to keep this particular, life-giving thought at the forefront of your mind ……

YOU ARE NOT A SINNER!!

If you keep believing the lie that you are still a sinner, even after you have given your life to Christ, it keeps you in a place of defeat and bondage and you don’t want that!

We all sin but there is a very big difference between saying, “I sin” and “I am a sinner”. One is defining an action, the other is defining who you are as a person. You and me were sinners before Christ, but we are no longer. We are now the righteousness of God in Christ as well as the long list below.

Say this out loud each time you hear lies in your mind (or from other people) that are trying to convince you that you are less than you really are. Print this out, cut out the below declarations and carry them with you so that you have a weapon in your pocket when the lies come.

I AM a new creation in Christ    (2 Corinthians 5:17)
I AM a saint    (1 Corinthians 1:2)
I AM a royal priesthood    (1 Peter 2:9)
I AM the righteousness of God in Christ    (2 Corinthians 5:21)
I AM a child of God    (John 1:12)
I AM forgiven    (1 John 1:9)
I AM the light of the world    (Matthew 5:14)
I AM a co-heir with Christ    (Romans 8:17)
I AM desperately loved by God ….. just as I am right now    (Romans 8:38-39)
I AM the Bride of Christ and we are already married      (Ephesians 5:21-33, Revelation 19:7)
I AM filled with the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead    (Romans 8:11)
I AM chosen and I belong to God   (1 Peter 2:9)

This is who you truly are. This is the truth.

I close with this thought.

Acts 13:39 (AMP) says, “and through Him EVERYONE who believes [who acknowledges Jesus as Lord and Savior and follows Him] is justified and DECLARED FREE of guilt FROM ALL THINGS, from which you could not be justified and freed of guilt through the Law of Moses.”

This IS the truth that WILL set you free and keep you free! Let this sink deep into your soul today.
