Have you ever wondered if the Creator of the Universe is interested in the little things in your life? Could the great God who sits in Heaven care about the seemingly mundane aspects of your life, even the things that are important to only you?
You better believe it!!
Christianity is the only ‘religion’ that is based on relationship and not works. Works are involved, sure, but at the base of it, God wants relationship with people, with you, first and foremost. That’s very amazing.
Miracle 1
This past week, I was sitting with our children and we were watching an episode of Superbook. It’s a fantastic show that teaches children about the Bible stories in an interesting and relevant way. We were watching an episode about Elisha and how he prayed for an iron axe head to be raised out of the river. The story is found in 2 Kings 6:1-7.
Basically, Elisha went with the people to go to the Jordan to begin making new houses for themselves there as the land where they were was becoming too small for them all to live in. As the people were cutting down the trees, one of the worker’s axe heads flew off and fell into the water. The only thing that the Bible records happening after this incident is:
““Alas, my master! For it was borrowed.” Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And when he showed him the place, he cut off a stick and threw it in there, and made the iron float. He said, “Take it up for yourself.” So he put out his hand and took it.”
2 Kings 6:5-7
“Alas, my master! For it was borrowed.” That’s all the man said. His name is not mentioned but compassion rises up in ‘the man of God’, Elisha, and he comes to the rescue. Elisha prays and the axe head that is made of iron, floats to the surface of the water. Did you catch that? The iron axe head floated. Wow!
What did the axe head mean to Elisha? Nothing. It only meant something to the man, to his family if he had one, and the man he borrowed it from. There are only 3 verses in this story. This doesn’t seem like a big deal in all the pages of the Bible.
The more I pondered on this, the more Holy Spirit spoke to me about the closeness of God. This man in the Bible was so important to God that when the axe head flew off, God stepped in. Elisha prayed and God gave the man the axe head back. Why was this important? Firstly, the axe head was borrowed so it wasn’t his, and secondly, it was the way he was going to build his new home. It wasn’t like he could run to the local shop to buy the wood, they had to go out and find it and cut it down themselves. This was a really big deal.
The bottom line is, God’s first longing is to draw people, His children, to Himself to have a deep and intimate relationship with them. What do you think this experience did to this man?
Have you ever lost something and searched and searched until it was found? Or maybe you couldn’t find it at all.
Miracle 2
God confirmed my thoughts through a personal example just last week.
I have one pair of hoop earrings that cost me quite a bit of money. I bought them when there was a 50% off sale but they were still expensive. I really like them but they very easily pop out of my ears.
In the shower, one of the earrings fell out. I quickly grabbed it because it could easily slide down the drain. I put it back in my ear and went about my day. That night, I realised that my other earring had gone. My family and me began to search. We search everywhere and it was not found. I was bugged that it had fallen out so I said to God, “I know this is not a big deal but You know where it is. Would you please show me?” I sat still to listen …… nothing. Crickets.
I went to bed still bugged but decided to let it go. It’s just a thing. In the big scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. The next morning I had a shower, washed my hair and after I had turned off the water I flicked my head over to wrap my hair in my towel and on the floor of the shower was my earring.
Now, you could be thinking that it was there all the time. The thing is, the earring is small. My husband had had a shower after me the day before and I had just had another shower. The water would have lifted the earring and it would have disappeared in the drain. It wasn’t there when I stepped into the shower yet it was there at the end.
God had answered my prayer.
Nothing is too small to God.
If it is important to you, it is important to Him.
What is on your heart that is bugging you? It may be a big thing or it may be that you have lost something and you really want it back. Ask the Lord to bring it back. He knows where everyone and everything is. He can and is willing to show you.
Whatever it is, big or small, EVERYTHING MATTERS!
I encourage you today to share your heart with your Father God. He is interested in every single area of your life. There is nothing that is hidden from Him. He loves you so desperately and He longs to help you and be with you. You are that important to Him.
Nothing you could ever do or say could shock Him. He knows everything. Share your heart with Him today.
He’s waiting …. just for you!
