Step Out And Try Something New – Watch Fear Leave and Courage Enter

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”   Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

Have you ever had a dream, deep within your heart, and all you needed to do was to take a step into it but fear barricaded the door?

In 2016, I studied ‘Culinary Nutrition’ with the amazing Meghan Telpner. I learnt so much and my goal (my dream) is to be able to help people who are suffering from illnesses, with the healing properties of good nutrition and prayer – just as God planned it to be. Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” God knew before the beginning of time what illnesses and diseases our modern world would suffer with. God, in His kind and awesome wisdom, created every edible tree, plant, herb, spice, fruit, vegetable, seed, nut, and yes, even animal to nourish and heal the bodies that He gave us to live in.

This is a dream that I have had since I was a teenager – oh so long ago but let’s not go there. I was so excited that I signed up 11 months before the course was due to begin. My excitement, however, turned to fear when I got a hold of the assignments that I was to complete. I had not studied, to this degree, in ……. well ever. Again, we won’t go there. I wasn’t diligent at school. There, I admit it.

One of the week’s assignments was to create a recipe to treat an illness or condition that we had been learning about. Each student had done countless hours of research on a particular condition and I chose Insulin Resistance – which is a precursor to SO many diseases, not just Diabetes like I had first thought. It’s all about balancing the blood sugar levels in the body. The difference between a stable blood sugar level and a Diabetic’s blood sugar level is ¼ teaspoon of sugar. Not much is it.

Anyway, I digress. I had chosen foods that were blood stablising in my research and wondered how I could put it all together. I had had an incredibly trying week and was so exhausted that I just wanted to sleep. I laid down, trying to rest but I had my assignment going through my head. Can you relate? It’s so annoying, isn’t it, when you can’t shut your thoughts off, just for one night. Let me sleep!!!

But then …

… God gives me a recipe. (I honestly feel like I am cheating a little.) I really don’t know why I am surprised but I am. I was so angry at Him that day that I even yelled at Him and told Him I didn’t want to play anymore (I know you have never done that). Life was getting too hard …… and here He is, my Knight in shining armour, to my rescue even though I most certainly didn’t deserve it.

I stepped out. God honoured my step of faith. Was the course overwhelming? Yes, at times it was but I had God to help me – just as He is always willing to help you.

What’s your dream?

What dream do you have in your heart that you are fearful to step into? Do you believe the dream is from the Lord? If you are passionate about it, then it most likely is.

In today’s verse, what if you read it like this:

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you His desires for your heart, for your life that will bring you amazing purpose and complete fulfillment.

God HAS given you His desires and you need to make them your own. What are YOU passionate about? What areas drive YOU mad that you want to see justice be delivered in? God has planted this inside YOU. Don’t dismiss these feelings. These are a part of YOU.

Today, ask the Lord what He would like you to do. What is one step that you can take today to move towards fulfilling your purpose on this earth? Remember, you only get one chance at it, please don’t waste it. The more you step out in faith and courage, fear will have to leave because it can’t stand around to watch.

The Bible says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”  James 4:7-8a ESV.

Take just one step towards God and fear, or the devil, has to take one step back. Sure, the enemy will try different tactics but God knows what he’ll do before he does it. The devil is ALWAYS one step behind God. He’s already defeated. Don’t forget that.

God has your back. YOU just keep moving forward. Take one step ……. that’s all God asks of you.

Live the exciting dream that God has put within you today.

Please let me know, in the comments below, what is the one step that you are going to take today, towards fulfilling that God-given dream that is brewing in your heart.

As always, my prayers are with you.
