Have you ever looked at your life and wondered how you got here?
Has the thought ever crossed your mind, “Is this all there is? Is there more?”
Maybe you are comfortable right where you are, and that’s totally ok. But maybe you are wondering if there really is more to your life than this.
I used to like watching the romantic comedy movies (I know, I know) until I realised that there is always someone who gets hurt and left behind. Most of the time the women, but sometimes the men, would be hanging onto a relationship that wasn’t going anywhere, almost seeming like they were just waiting for the ‘love of their life’ to come along and take them out of their self-made misery.
The love of their life seems to be their rescuer instead of them taking 100% responsibility for their own life and changing their own circumstances.
They were waiting for someone else to do it for them.
This, I realised, is an extremely selfish way to live.
What do you think? Have you ever thought about it?
Reality – The Good and The Bad
I tell our children quite often that every decision that they make has a consequence attached to it. EVERY decision, no matter how big or small, good or bad.
A good action, word or thought receives a good consequence.
A bad action, word or thought receives a bad consequence.
Pretty self-explanatory really, don’t you think?
What does the Prodigal Son story have to do with you and me?
EVERYTHING!
(This story can be found in Luke 15-11:32)
I was watching a Superbook episode (a children’s show) of this story and it arrived at the part where the father was putting the ring, the robe and the sandals on his beloved son.
As I was watching this scene, a thought popped into my mind, “And that’s all that he now owns.”
Wow!
I began meditating on this thought. I don’t remember hearing anyone speak about the consequences that came to the Prodigal Son after he returned.
Have you?
The younger son took ALL of his inheritance so that when he returned, he literally had nothing. None of the land, the livestock, the produce from the field, the servants, not even a roof over his head or the clothes he needed to wear. Nothing was his.
Yes, he was totally loved and accepted by his father but the consequence was that he now had nothing. He was 100% reliant on the kindness, protection and provision of his father and eventually his brother.
Was he being punished?
Not at all. This was the consequence he chose the day he asked his dad for his share of the inheritance. In those days, you had to wait for your father to die to receive your inheritance so essentially the son was saying, “I wish you would hurry up and die so I can have what is mine.”
He deemed himself more important than his father. The money was more important to him than his father’s own life – yet the father agreed.
This is such an incredible picture of Father God’s kindness, love and mercy. The father in the story never moved and waiting unfailingly for his son to return. God never moves either. He always stays right next to you. You may feel away from Him but feelings can be liars. He never moves. He waits to embrace you every moment, of every day.
However, Father God will never force you to stay with Him nor will He stop you, most of the time, from making bad decisions. He will most certainly prompt you not to go that way but He won’t go against your will. He loves you that much! (Remember, God is NOT in control, He is in charge.)
Don’t get me wrong, it hurts Him tremendously when people walk away, ignore Him altogether or get hurt in whatever form but hindsight will often reveal that He did give a warning beforehand.
Think back to how many times you had a ‘niggling feeling’ in the pit of your stomach that you knew you shouldn’t have done or said a certain thing, but then it was too late. You did it anyway.
That was Holy Spirit prompting you.
That’s how much He cares about you.
Take FULL responsibility for every choice that you have made.
You are where you are right now because of every decision you have made, right up until this point of time – today.
It’s time to stop blaming other people for the circumstances in your life.
Yes, people do bad things against you and yes, someone has most likely hurt you very badly but … YOU can change your life for the better.
Yes, you might have had a terrible accident or have a disease that is most certainly not your fault. However, the perspective you have and the choices you make are completely up to you. I don’t say that lightly but it really is true. You can still live an amazing life and fulfil the destiny that God placed within you.
The GOOD NEWS – The son had access to absolutely everything the father owned.
EVERYTHING … WOW!
Do you realise that you too have access to everything that your Heavenly Father owns? Everything!
When you walked away from living your own life your own way, you returned to Father God and He made a commitment to you to look after you, to give you access to everything which belongs to Him. That is everything, in case you were wondering. EVERYTHING in existence belongs to Him … including you and me.
You came into this world with nothing and you’ll leave this world with nothing but in between times, if you have a relationship with Jesus, you have access to everything that you could possibly need both in Heaven and here on earth.
How exciting is that!
Did you know this?
The older brother in the story never realised what he had. He complained that he was never given a young goat that he might celebrate with his friends. He didn’t realise that he had complete access to everything his father owned. He could have taken a goat whenever he wanted it.
God gave you a Spirit of power!
The Bible says that you and me HAVE the mind of Christ now (1 Cor 2:16), and that we are seated in Heavenly places with Jesus now too (Eph 2:6). You don’t have to wait for Heaven to access these things – you have access to them right now, today!
How do I do that?
Well, first of all you need to believe it (Matt 8:13, Mk 9:23 & Mk 11:23).
You must ask God for what you want (James 4:2 & Jn 14:14).
Then you need to believe that you have what you have asked for, if it is according to God’s will for your life (Phil 4:19).
Anything that you need, is His will.
Anything that will help you to fulfil your purpose on the earth, is His will.
Any requests for healing, provision, reconciliation, hope and love, is His will.
Your life is about to get exciting ….
…. if you want it to be.
You have access to more than you realise.
We are on the precipice of new beginnings.
Step in, don’t wait behind or you will be left behind.
It’s time to take 100% responsibility for your life and fulfil what you have been born for.
Today!
What is it that you need today? What is the greatest desire in your heart? How do you want to be a blessing to others? It could be small, it could be gigantic. It’s all the same to Father God. Nothing is impossible for Him. How about you ask Him for what you want today? Please let us know what you are asking for in the Comments below so that we can be believing alongside you.
Have a miraculous day.
Remember, every time you pray miracles happen. God is always working behind the scenes – just for you!
Abundant blessings to you.
