Do you feel incredibly frustrated that this year is panning out to being similar to last year, and the year before that, and the year before that?
Have you thought about tomorrow or are you just surviving today?
I want to encourage you …
… THERE IS ALWAYS MORE!!
Today’s post is really practical.
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
I love this quote that is thought to be said by Benjamin Franklin.
Without a plan, you can get very distracted and when the end of the day comes, you wonder what you did all day and face the thought that tomorrow may be just the same.
This is no way to live.
YOU NEED A VISION!
Why?
If you don’t have a vision for your tomorrows, they will slip by and before you know it, 10 years has passed and you are still doing the same thing you did previously and you wonder what happened.
I know I have done that.
Proverbs 29:18
“Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained.”
If you don’t have a vision for your future, you will waste your time now on things that don’t matter eg. watching tv and movies; scrolling endlessly for hours on social media sites, wishing your life looked like that; playing computer games, reading about other people living their lives instead of you living your own, etc.
Most of these things in small amounts are not necessarily harmful, but what you spend most of your time doing is where your priorities are in your life.
God owns everything – including time. You and me are stewards of all that God owns so we need to use our time very, very wisely.
YOU NEED A PLAN!
You need to find something in your life that you would like to improve.
Just simply getting your days more organised is a huge start.
Starting your day the night before has the potential to change your life forever!
Would you like to know how?
Your day begins the night before.
In Genesis Chapter 1 and verses 5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31, it says, “And there was evening and there was morning, the (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) day.”
Did you catch that? You have probably heard it taught before.
It’s a powerful truth.
How you finish is how you begin.
Have you ever noticed that if you go to bed stressed about something and it keeps rolling over and over in your mind, you wake up thinking about it? Still stressed?
This is because your mind never sleeps.
While your body is sleeping (or trying to) your mind is rehearsing over and over the last things that you were thinking about before you went to sleep.
So how you end your night is how you begin your morning.
What to do then?
Well, purposely and intentionally put your focus on Jesus before you go to sleep. You can do this by listening to some worship music and praising Him, reading His miracles in the Bible (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John), YouVersion has a Bible app that you can listen to the Word on, or thanking Him for everything good you have in your life.
It doesn’t have to be for long. Just long enough that your mind is focused on Him instead of being focused on what type of day you had. If you’ve had a particularly difficult day, week, or month, this might take you a bit longer to do. Please persevere and don’t go by your feelings.
Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
Remember, you are never alone. If you have submitted your life to Jesus, you have Holy Spirit living continually in you. You can ask Him to help you to focus on Jesus. He loves nothing better than doing that.
There’s power in your mind!!!!
Plan your day the night before.
Are you a digital planner or do you like pen and paper, or are you similar to me and use both?
I like having alarms set to remind me of things during the day but I also find it very helpful to have my diary/planner open in front of me. Here I can see the list of things that I want to accomplish that day and I can also list things I remember or come up so I don’t forget.
Try making your list of ‘to do’s’ for the next day, before you go to bed. The benefit of writing it down on paper is that you can keep it beside your bed, write down things that you don’t want to forget, and not be distracted by the apps, notifications, videos and emails that are on your mobile phone.
May I suggest that you get an old fashioned alarm clock so that you don’t have to have your mobile phone in your room? This might be a really out there idea but for the people that do that, they sleep much better and their brains are not distracted.
Another thing to do is to lay your complete outfit out the night before, ready for the next day. This means your accessories (yes, men have them too) and shoes. This alone can bring such peace to your morning.
If there are other things that you need for your day, prepare them all the night before and have them ready in a place where you can pick up everything at once and go.
Create a Morning Routine
What does your morning look like?
Is it harried and frantic?
If yes, do you enjoy being like this every single day?
You can change it.
Set your non mobile phone alarm (he he he) for just 30 mins earlier in a morning. If you do that 5 days a week for one entire year, by the time the end of the year comes, you will have gained 130 hours – that’s just over 5 days worth of time!
Imagine what you could do in 5 extra days of time.
You could start an exercise routine (I can see you rolling your eyes). You could begin a routine of reading your Bible and praying for 30 minutes. You could write a book, begin a business, write a song, compose music, learn a new skill or hobby. The possibilities truly are endless.
You don’t need a huge amount of time to accomplish something. Every little thing adds up into a big thing if you keep being consistent at it.
With just a little organisation, you can begin your day by doing something constructive and get ready to start your day in a non rushed day.
YOU NEED A PLAN!
Don’t just flounder through your day with no plans or forethought. Your life will slip by and you may one day regret what could have been.
Every single person on the planet gets the same amount of minutes in every day.
Be one of those who make each second count, who will make a difference in your sphere of influence, and live the life that you were created to live!
Get a plan and a vision for your life and don’t live unrestrained where your life just passes you by.
You are worth more than that. Your life is worth more than that.
You were designed to make a difference!
